Marriage Customs in Asia

Asian bridal customs are very different from one another. They have the potential to open up amazing perspectives on various societies and ideologies

A month prior to her wedding, a Chinese bride must scream with her mother for an afternoon each day. Next, ten days later, her grandmother joins in, and by the time the suffering is over, every woman in the family must be sobbing alongside the bride. The newlyweds are said to find it simple to become pregnant thanks to this ceremony, known as Au Chuang.

In Japan, it is customary for family members to give the bride a quilted robe known as an uchikake before her wedding ceremony that has the pattern of cranes, ripples, and pines. Additionally, she may give decorated twigs from the revered Sakaki trees to her new residence while donning a hair and specific kimono with her family crest attached.

When the man arrives at the event, he is welcomed by the bride’s female family. To ward off evil eyes, they will conduct aarti and utilize tilak. The Groom’s male friends will then be greeted and invited to participate in the tradition of circling the holy flames during the Milni Ceremony. They did make their pledges to one another and to their families here.

The groom’s family will then give her parents bride price ( betrothal gifts ) if their horoscopes coincide. The few will then proceed to circle the fire in a series of methods. This is done to keep their goals, such as wealth, love, and obligation to one another and their families, in the forefront of their minds.
